Avoid Airtasker at all costs. You might end up with a scammer in your home — and the company won't help you!

I hired a Tasker through Airtasker to remove cardboard boxes from my flat. Instead of doing the job properly, he dumped all the boxes in the basement of my own building and then demanded full payment — as if the task was completed! He took my money without even blinking.

This man is dishonest, unpleasant, and acted in a very strange way. I felt unsafe in my own home — he stayed in the flat until I paid and left a review. I genuinely believe this person is not normal, possibly unstable or under the influence.

Even worse, Airtasker covered for this person. They refused to refund my money, refused to let me post my honest review, and did absolutely nothing to protect me as a customer.

Airtasker allows fraudulent and unsafe people to operate on their platform, and they don't take any responsibility when things go wrong.

I've been on Airtasker for almost 2 years.
It can be a good platform to find casual work to top up one's income.
However, i've noticed a dramatic downfall on a number of issues!
There is an ever increasing issue of scammers with fake profiles (customers and taskers)!
These get reported regularly and swiftly, but Airtasker are too slow to respond.
The number of users who are extremely likely not allowed to legally work in the UK (you can tell by the level of English and profiles) using it to earn money in the black economy (similar to Deliveroo, Uber Eats & Just Eat etc) is increasing!
When scammers accounts do get taken down, they can just create new and multiple accounts straight away - Airtasker should enforce that ALL user accounts should be ID verified with Government ID to significantly reduce a lot of the issues from the source - a win for customers, taskers and Airtasker itself!
Airtasker has on top increased their fees to over 22% (and they take a % from the customer)!
They say it's to invest in the running of the platform and security etc, but there scammers are flooding the platform and customer service is extremely slow (same script replies) and very slow moderation of flagged scams/rule breakers!
And they have removed the ability for other users to comment on other people's comments warning them of scams!
A good concept that's destroying itself for the sake of increasing it's profits!

I paid $115 for 1.5 hours of garden work, as agreed with the Tasker (who said he normally charges $75/hr). But when he arrived, he suddenly claimed he'd only be doing 1 hour, blaming Airtasker's fees, his own GST, and tax obligations — and tried to make me absorb his costs. He even showed me the app and said, "I only get $89," as if that excused cutting the job short. I had already paid my own $15 service fee — why should I cover his too? Worse still, I had to chase Airtasker for days to get a refund — multiple follow up emails... and only after I pushed hard did they finally return my money, including the booking fee. Airtasker may not control every Tasker, but when a customer raises serious concerns, the company should take responsibility by at least following up or issuing a warning. That's the bare minimum if they want to maintain any kind of ethical standard on their platform. Avoid.

ESPECIALLY as a female, as aggressive and intimidating male Taskers if eg things go wrong due to GREED, they KNOW YOUR ADDRESS so they are threatening and make you so SCARED that they can come back to your house and get aggressive with you even further so you give in and LET them have the money for the ( in my case) job they didn't even DO!

I am not the only female who was left in an unsafe situation and Airtasker do NOTHING and they do not CARE and keep the abusive man ON their site!:-(

Two other people were ROBBED in their own home by a Tasker and the police could do nothing and Airtasker DID nothing, as usual, as they are all JUST words when things go wrong and you are left TRAUMATISED because of their bullying, unprofessional, aggressive, intimidating to women 'Taskers'

I am a victim of crime after using a UK cleaner from Airtasker! We have had personal belongings and our identity taken! Beware!

Airtasker connected me with a dodgy plumber who charged almost $500 over the agreed amount to replace a pair of wall taps in my shower. Was pressured by the plumber to pay, and being coerced, paid to get him out of my house. I told Airtasker of the coercive behaviour and asked for a partial refund. I was directed to the site's terms and conditions, wherein Airtasker accepts no responsibility for any Tasker behaviour, including criminal conduct. Do yourself a favour - hire from a reputable business, not a dodgy Airtasker.

Posted for car detailing. 2 people came and did the job. They stole 2 sets of knives in glass boxes from my trunk. Airtasker Raph was in communication with me but now the emails keep bouncing back and he wont give me their address so i can contact the police. Beware!

Absolutely disgusting, rude and unprofessional, be very careful, a rip-off, aggressive and quite a worry!

Simple! Apparently it not enough to write 'simple' Airtasker is the mother of all scammers and thieves. Don't lose years off your life and money from your account to end up without what you needed

I've been using Airtasker for a few years, despite the all the 5 stars and great reviews I got from posters many even tipped me after job completion without my knowledge until they released payment, I got banned for biding tasks and stated for the total hours I could offer not hourly rate.

Airtasker doesn't allow to quote hourly rate, but when you search for removalist almost everyone quote their hourly rate or 15mins or 30mins rate and they never get banned. And it has been that way for a very long time.

But when there's other tasks like home decluttering and organising, posters often has limit budget and they really want to know how many hours for example $150 can cover, follow the guild lines we are not to discuss the hourly rate but even to state the total hours we could offer for a job will get you banned which is really unfair!

The last job I completed on Airtasker got me banned because I mentioned the 4 hours I could work and that was when I saw poster answered other people's question in regards to how many hours she expected. The poster was really nice but she has fatigue and could get tried very easily, so I ended up stayed less than 4hrs. Got another great review after but also got banned from Airtasker.

I've raised the issue to the support team and gave evidences but they still have this double standard when come to quoting.

Very disappointed on how they treat their taskers whom they took up to 22% commission fees from! Also posters should have rights to know the hours according to their budget if they wish especially when they don't want to post pictures of their homes for privacy reasons.

We had a job accepted by an Airtasker to pick up a cupboard and 45 minutes before pickup, the guy cancelled. We have no way contacting Airtasker, we have spend over $150 which has already been taken from my account, i cannot even leave a review for the guy because the job didnt get done.

The only offer that I have been made is that if i cancel my job, my $150 goes into "Air Tasker Credits" - like I would EVER use this site again!

Airtasker is great when it works but when it doesnt you have ZERO CHANCE OF CONTACTING ANYONE at Airtasker.

I can't believe how stupid are people at Airtasker. When you publish a task you can't invite tradie to have a look at the job to provide more accurate offer. You must first accept the offer and only then you can communicate with the tradie. Whoever made that rule is an absolute moron.

It seemed odd it's like the few people that reached out with acceptance had never worked before but the pictures didn't even look right it seemed like a quick money crab. The monitors would not allow much correspondence not any really it's seemed to monitored. I couldn't get information about the job. I don't trust the application it's too much control so I am not surprised...I knew if I paid I would never seeeeeee my money again.

$4,500 later, & this is the tiling job we were left with, the whole 150sq metres. The whole length of the "newly stoned" garden is also what we were left with, from "his" discarded grout buckets. We also had the loo stuffed full of loo paper up to the rim, with the discarded empty roll thrown on the floor, done on purpose before "he" took off with an early release of our money, foolishly paid by my brother.
Absolutely heartbreaking, as we lost "both" our parents mid last year, & have been having their home done up, & due to go to auction, in another 2 wks time, which we've now had to cancel. We will have to pay thousands more now, to get an "actual tradesman" to fix up the damage. I hope this review will be able to save someone else going through similar.

I have completed not one but, three different tasks for posters needing a task done and have still yet to be compensated for my work my time and dedication solely sacrificing my own personal needs to complete their projects as they required without any compensation! I do not recommend performing any tasks for anyone on this site they are scammers using someone else time and hard work to gain pprofits and dont even compensate you for your hard work and efforts

We were tasker in a airtasker. The tasker called as Majid threatened and harrashed us all the time. We got so much depressed and we are not able to work. He said we have copied his template when we research in internet for 4 hours. Majid has threatened and terrorized us. We are left with no any money as we got too depressed to work due to him. Majid has spreader a remours that we got a cheep machiene. When someone is trying to assign us he undercut the price.
He did not let is get any job assigned. He has stock and harassed us. He bring his toxicity in the aap. He is still working nicely and making money.
We worked for airtasker for 3 years but it's just toxic due to him now.
He also said he applied all the job in North which was too far for him, just to let us not get any job. He played a dirty game with us. He always check the aap and put us down.

Accepted a quote from an Airtasker who then offline tried to charge me over 50% more. Cancelled the job which they rejected. Wrote a communication to them on Airtasker nothing that they tried this and they blocked me. Contacted Airtasker and no response. Tried to report the tasker and the report keeps bouncing. So, Airtasker gets to hold my money for a week now and I have no recourse.

I just posted a task, pick a tradies and paid for the deposit. Then the tradies ask for more money to cover his fee, and lie about his availability. I cancel the task and waiting to ask for my refund. I am not happy because i was not told i need to pay for booking fees before i confirm to pick the tradies and before i pay for the deposit. I only noticed about the booking fees after i provide my credit card info and agree the terms and conditions, which is i need to pay for the booking fees, and i don't know the amount of the booking fees as well. This is not transparencies about the fees for the poster. I am still waiting for the confirmation email and waiting for the instruction for my refund. I will keep posting my comment in FB, Twitter, YouTube Wikipedia, until my issue is resolved. Thank you.

I'm having to go through ACCC to get my money back I don't think they get to ignore U and keep the $240...
