Just signed up for a 30 day free trial, but my credit card has been charged $14.00 yesterday. Why?

Because they can. I am sorry if that sounds flippant, but it is the truth and there is no other logical reason for it. Please note that they don't charge by the page, but rather by the minute and they purposely use a very small bandwidth to send pages.
