I signed up to Mubi at a cost of 39 per year in 2017. Although most of the movies take forever buffering, it seemed like a small price to pay for the occasional good movie that's not available elsewhere. However, the next year they took nearly 72 from my Paypal account, which I didn't notice, and this year, 10 days before the expiry of the previous year's contract, they took 95.88. They do not respond to emails... though i imagine their customer services are very very busy. 59% of users on Trust Pilot give it a 1/5 rating... not very good when all they have to do is provide movies and most report the same overcharging scam. Paypal have refused my request for a refund, even though the payment was not due.
First, the gripe. I signed on to MUBI a few years ago under the commitment that if I maintain my membership, they will *never* increase the price. Three years later, the charge to my credit card is almost thrice as much. And if you object, they'll tell you how they're worth it, never mind the breach of promise.
Then there's the film selection. It's bizarre and often repetitive. The curated content often has low value. I would go months without watching a film, but I maintained my subscription because I wanted to maintain my price. But then of course, they tripled the price anyway and charged it to my credit card...
I'm tired of looking for movies in this platform, they come up but most of them are unavailable
Instead, they say, I can watch Popeye, for instance? I wonder what does Popeye have to do with a Spanish comedy.
Very trustworthy.
A newtowrk for movie fans, aimed at sharing, reviewing and discovering movies. Very extensive database (only occasionally missing less known movies, e.g. non-American).
Interface could be improved by a twitter-facebook-like timeline, and with more ways (and more intuitive ways) to connect to your connections. Still highly recommended.
Answer: Because that is their business model... they just put their hands over their ears and keep taking your money.
Answer: Mubi won't help you. They don't answer customer enquiries and they don't give refunds... make sure you've cancelled with your bank or Paypal or they'll take a subscription every year... they've made a lot of money that way. I can watch them on my Macbook Pro, but usually stay watching Youtube alongside whist waiting for them to buffer. If it's a halfway popular film you may never get to the end. Also they bring the annual payment date forward by a few days each year to catch you out.
