Today they published an article on how to help the abortion debate in the USA. How is this gaming related? Why are they using their website as a political soapbox for something that is not even remotely gaming related? Avoid this site at all costs.
This isn't the first time they have done this, they often prattle into "woke" topics and then shut down comments so their readers can't call them out on this terrible practice. They have leaned far into the left-wing politics section. There are a zillion websites out there if you want your mind poisoned by politics, but somehow they think people who visit a website for PC gaming care about their political whining.
The sooner this website goes under the better. They used to be a good print magazine, but like many other businesses, they are slowly being destroyed by left-wing activists.
1. Almost impossible to view site layout due to the amount of advertising content.
2. The articles are written with personal bias and very little if not zero research into the actual product.
PCgamer.com are an illegitimate source of PC and gaming related content.
I've been visiting this site for over 5 years. It's reviews and articles are well researched and almost always well reasoned.
The latest layout of the newstream is a bit annoying and they can slavishly follow a trending topic, sometimes to the exclusion of more interesting stories, but all in all its the best place to go for a PC gaming fix!
A bunch of clowns running that site.
Ads galore, Heavy censorship and nothing but articles with misleading headlines makes this one of the worst gaming related websites to browse. They removed the "dislike" button, They will flag and ban you for stating any opinions even remotely negative. Their website is literally plastered with intrusive video adverts, all while 60% of their articles now feature social news and information sometimes not even related with Computer gaming, ie. Social drama from a corporation where the CEO is now being sued and jailed, energy drinks from a mainstream clown holding questionable amounts of caffeine etc.
This website used to be strictly gaming centric prior to the 2010's, now a site run by loser millennials who were probably bullied in Highschool. Pathetic and almost hilarious.
Its a cool website to stay up to date with the latest news in the gaming world. Reviews are pretty good, there are a lot of articles about news and random trivia.
From its constant censorship in its comments section to its consistent, out of touch articles that take the "edgy" angle for a gaming website, PCGAMER is the absolute worst. Once, the website was utterly concerned with the goings-on in the world of personal computing. These days they are more interested in "woke" agenda-driven reportage. They are a non NPOV website, packed to the brim with agenda pushing writers who are, for the most part, completely out of touch with their readers.
It's such a shame because they have fallen so far. PC GAMER spends far too much time and effort reviewing non PC related "social" problems going on around the world as of 2021, whilst leaving out the details actual PC gamers want from games reviews such as how the game runs, why it is good/bad and what makes it different from what came before. Their score based review system is also embarrassingly used and without justification. Any website that still uses the percentage system over a single digit out of ten scoring system (or just a good review for that matter rather than either) shows how out of touch it is.
On another note regarding "reviews", some of the scores they have given to great games (i won't mention specifics as too many to count) have created a significant backlash in the comments section. So they promptly lock said comments section to stop any discourse of their reviews by readers. If PCGAMER now rate a game down, you can bet on steam it has a "very positive" review rating.
Last but not least, their overzealous advertising method, with its forced "Please subscribe to use by newsletter or click the "x" before you can carry on reading, along with overzealous placement of advertising, makes the website pretty much unusable. It is like a gamers version of the awful British Daily Mail. (see uploaded picture for how much of a mess it is)
It's become so bad I moved to IGN. That should say it all.
Pretty decent games, pretty decent prices and the shipping speed is decent also their selection of games are nice
