U-boat data WW1 and WW2

This is really for military history buffs – especially those with an interest in the U-boat (German submarine) campaigns in WW1 and WW2. In both world wars the German submarine service nearly won the war for Germany – then were slowly beaten back by advances in Allied anti-submarine technology, increases in ship building in America and strangling lack of material and supplies in Germany.
It was a bitter and bloody campaign on both sides. The U-boat services suffered horrendous casualties – 28,000 (75%) of the entire service died and 793 u-boats were sunk.

This website ( http://uboat.net) has accurate details (in English) on every U-boat including officers and crew, patrol details, ships sunk and casualties. It covers the commanders, U-boat technology, uniforms, ranks, training, medals and honours. There are forums, galleries of photographs and information on books and films covering the submarine war.

If you are interested in this period and aspect of history, an excellent website.
