These people twice now have scheduled a interview that they didn't even call me for if they are this unprofessional and forgetful imagine having your loved ones in here don't do it and look somewhere e else.
The DeKalb IL location sent us caregivers who stole from us, used our washer and dryer to do their personal laundry, ate us out of house and home, and one caregiver did not even realize my mother's oxygen was not properly hooked up and she was without oxygen for 8 hours (was supposed to be on oxygen 24/7). And they fired ME because I complained about these issues and was therefore, "too demanding."
For starters (this was years ago, but has rankled me EVERY time I see their ads) - the R. I. branch had an outgoing message to potential caregivers stating, in essence, that we were basically unskilled, thus could only expect their paltry $7.00 an hour.
I thought, what the heck, let's see what it's like, they hired me for an adversarial Alzheimers dementia client who HATED me being there. I went twice and called the agency before I was needed the third time and said I wasn't coming. I could have said I was sick and lied about it, but I chose to tell the truth, that I felt forced to find another job.
The message didn't get to the family and the man was left alone. The owner called, yelled at me and hung up when it was THEIR error!
Then I see on a local afternoon television show with a spot about Home Instead and the reps. Are stating how they train all caregivers in Alzheimers care - I received NO training whatsoever! Bad experience across the board.
Home instead is a great resource for your loved one's home care needs. They can help find a care giver in your area and are available for advice on common conditions such as depression, alzheimer's, and arthritis.
I applied for a job in Largo. I was told 3 days in a training class (no pay). You pay for your drug test. They don't guarantee work. They want everything done their way. I wasn't interested in this company.
I called Home Instead to get a quote for a home caregiver for my great uncle in Southern California. And man was Home Instead expensive. I know they talk about screening their employees and all that but is it really worth DOUBLE what other people are charging? I'd love to hear anyone else's stories, but Home Instead should be called Poverty Instead.

This is just a very expensive service. There are better supports out there. This is just a company trying to profit off desperate home care takers.
