ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in its identity verification service, which many users found secure and efficient, particularly praising the helpfulness of customer service during video calls. However, significant concerns were raised regarding the complexity of the verification process, which some customers found frustrating and time-consuming, particularly older users or those with unique identification issues. Additionally, delays and technical difficulties, including issues with document acceptance and login credentials, have led to dissatisfaction among several users. Overall, while the service is valued for its security, improvements in user experience and support are essential.

Only experience I have at this is my application process for the Anchor rebate in NJ. I will still be learning so much more about the ways to use this for future secure applications.
The process was clunky and the directions were confusing. The required selfie was never accepted, although I took it several times. Don't even try to opt for a level of security beyond "fair" unless you are in business. The questions are irrelevant if you are retired. Plan on spending a couple hours to complete this. At least.
I don't have a computer so it was harder going back and forth and hoping I get correct screen back. So if you have a computer use it.
All you need to do is follow the instructions. I was surprised at how seamless my smartphone and the website coordinated. I started on the site, then it told me to continue on my smartphone (texted me a link) where I took pictures of my drivers license, then took a quick video to confirm it was me. From there, it directed me back to the website and I was able to proceed. I had no problems with the system at all.
Referred by SSN site to ID.me for account verification. Although I already had an account with ID.me they made me go through the entire process to establish and account. After the account was established the SSN site wouldn't accept it for verification. Total waste of time.
Hours of attempts and failures to log in and they have no support, which means important gov't web sites I need, I cannot access. My dad is denied a military funeral service because I cannot log in to National Archives to retrieve his military Honorable Discharge docs DD214.
The site when finally set up seems to be easily able to move through. Without a grandsons help I most likely would not have been able to completely set it up. I think it is a good site for anyone needing to make contact with the irs.
I needed to use ID.ME because of my maiden/married name issues with the. GOV website. SSA is married name only. I set up initial. GOV acct with maiden/married name. Acct prompting said I was "successful" 2x putting in same info. Then could NOT sign in to either acct. Called. GOV. Suggested using ID.ME. Put in email and started to make the same mistake a 3rd time because I was unable to confirm my name issue until the END of the acct sign-in process. The video was very uncomfortable as the scan looked liked something at a carnival. When I attempted to change my name with ID.ME, I was using an IPad. The keyboard was NOT accessible to correct the name. I had to use an external keyboard to type the changes. Ultimately successful signing in and worth the persistence and patience!
Spent hours trying to use online, an hour on the phone and finally had to physically go to VA location. Had already been in the My Healthy Va for years but couldn't transfer information. It was ridiculous, even after a phone conversation and telling them I couldn't get in account, they continued to send messages and test results. No phone calls! Communication at Market Commibs is horrible!
It was easier this time then when I first tried to set one up about four years ago. But at that time I had someone trying to help me that later I found out took me. So I'm glad it didn't work cause it wanted my social security number that he could have got.
I found it easy. I know it's secure. I hope that you tell other people it is also secure and make people feel good about going to Social Security. It is a very important part of society along with Medicare so please stress that it is safe and secure sincerely Karen Nero
Please make the directs more plain for folks who are not tech savvy.
1. You must use a smartphone, because it will set up permissions in the browser. I used a tablet and had a problem with using making video.
I had an easy time in setting up for ID.me. The instructions were on target. I never had to send a selfie before and it was a breeze. I recommend signing up for ID.me.
Everything went very smoothly. After a quick phone call to the help line, I found out I needed to sign up through ID.me, since the phone account is under my daughter's name. Login.gov cannot verify your phone number if the account is under someone else's name. If the phone number you want to use for your account IS in your name, then I would assume either app would work easily.
This was an easy service to use. Allowed me to get the documents uploaded and didn't take much time. Navigating the site and instructions were clear.
After trying to log on to my social security account with other options. ID.me was very through in gilding me step by step to set up my ID.me account.
I tried using other sites to validate my identity and ID.me was the last one I tried. It would have saved me a lot of stress, time and frustration, had I used it first. It was so quick and easy and secure that I actually was smiling and enjoying the experience by the time I finished the process. I highly recommend ID.me for anyone who struggles with using technology or is adapt in using technology.
I am 58 years old and don't like doing work on my phone. However, I had no choice this morning as I had to get into the IRS account. ID me popped up as I was creating my account. I simply uploaded the front and back of my Drivers license. It took about 30 seconds maybe a minute to have them confirmed. They then walked me through taking a selfie, which is why I was using my phone in the first place. I was on a desktop computer and the IRS site sent me to my phone to upload. I must say I am very satisfied with the overall process. The survey at the end, however, is a little lengthy.
It was the easiest and safest way to insure and protect my id and information. I give 4 out of 5 stars because video upload was difficult but, that's due to my phone camera and not the system
I thought the instruction "Back" while taking a photo of my Driver's License referred to returning to the previous screen and didn't realize it meant "take a photograph of the back side of the license." Hence it took me hours and literally months of attempts to successfully upload my Driver's License.
