It is very hard to give any credibility whatsoever to a supposedly expert car site that gives a high probability for the cause of a diesel engine, Mercedes-Benz 300 SD, running irregularly to be either spark plugs or ignition coil. Maybe these people should either read a simple book on how diesel engines work, or maybe hire somebody who does.
Repair pal does not allow negative reviews on its site. Their certification means nothing. I used a repair shop with glowing recommendations from repair pal. I have never seen such poor workmanship, lack of professionalism and on top of that they did not fix my car they damaged it. They did not honor the warranty. There is no way on RepairPal to leave a negative review. I think the shops just pay a fee to be listed somewhere that on one can leave a negative review.
I finally found a way to contact RepairPal and they did respond. They are currently looking into my complaint and I am hoping for a resolution. I'll post the results once I have them.
Hi Patricia,
Our review process is of the highest standard - we pull customer data from the shop management system and do email and phone reviews with all their customers. We don't allow people to post unverified reviews on our site, and instead send 3rd party verified surveys after work is completed at the shop. In any case, I am more concerned that you get the service you deserve and that your core issues are resolved. I understand that we are in contact with you and you are working with one of our senior managers at RepairPal to get this squared away. We stand behind the work our shops do, and if for any reason it doesn't get completed correctly, we will help you to sort it out. Thank you for giving us that opportunity.
Had the valve cover gasket replaced in my BMW 328 (2007) - by far the most expensive. The part was under $100-labor was $800. INSANE. For one hour's work. Hold onto your wallet. Worse than the dealer. Do NOT recommend.
A water pump for@ 2007 GMC Yukon is going for 150$-250$ depending on warranty you want... repair pal says parts are 900$+...that's a bullcrap lie just for parts even with a new belt tension pulley and thermostat it will be under 400$ in parts at autozone... repair pal needs to be updated correctly for each vehicle and know exactly what they are talking about they obviously did not do any homework on this! There wrong completely...even my mechanic said it will be under 700$ if he does it...im doing it by myself it's right there easy to get to.I'm a GMC Yukon 07...
Hey Brandon,
Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We work hard to provide accurate estimates and quotes to our customers. We understand that the cost of auto repairs can be a sensitive issue for many people, and we want to assure you that we take pricing transparency very seriously.
That being said, our Fair Price Estimator does account for OEM parts and follows the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Another important thing to note is that the estimate also includes the cost of labor at the shops in your area, which may explain the difference in what you were able to find elsewhere.
We want our Estimator to be a fair and useful tool for customers, but we are always looking for ways to improve. If you would like to contact our Car Genius team, they can help verify if the estimate is incorrect based on your vehicle specifications. The number for Car Genius is 877-913-1554. Thank you.
I've worked at an auto repair business and repeatedly seen RepairPal allow dishonest people to just make stuff up and submit it onto a repair business's RepairPal page. Stuff like people coming by for free air in their tires and they shop took 5 minutes to air up the tire and the customer submits a "1 star review" and then claims that it took 2 hours and tells everyone to blackball the business. It seems that RepairPal is like most services like this and as long as they make money they let people post whatever they want.
I'm sorry to hear that you received an untrue and unfair review on your RepairPal page. It can be frustrating and discouraging to receive negative feedback that does not accurately reflect the quality of your business.
It's important to remember that online review platforms like RepairPal rely on user-generated content, which means that reviews can come from anyone, regardless of their experience with your business. While the vast majority of reviews are honest and constructive, there are unfortunately some instances where people may submit false or misleading information.
However, I would like to assure you that RepairPal takes the integrity of its platform very seriously and employs a variety of measures to ensure that reviews are as accurate and trustworthy as possible. This includes a thorough review process for each submission, as well as tools to detect and remove fraudulent or malicious reviews.
I hope this explanation helps to alleviate some of your concerns and that you will continue to use RepairPal to connect with new customers and showcase the quality of your auto repair business.
It gives quotes but auto shops do honor these quotes. If those quotes don't work, this is just a pointless referral machine. Given that the quotes don't work, google maps is way more effective for finding a good repair shop. Don't waste your time with repairpal.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration you may have experienced with our service. We take the accuracy of our quotes very seriously, and it is our expectation that shops will honor the quotes provided by our platform.
We understand how important it is for customers to be able to rely on quotes when making decisions about their repairs, and we will be investigating any cases where a shop did not honor a quote. It is not acceptable for shops to provide quotes and then not honor them, and we will take appropriate steps to address any such issues and ensure that our users receive the service they deserve.
We appreciate your feedback and hope that you will consider using RepairPal again in the future. We are constantly working to improve our service and provide the best possible experience for both shops and customers. If you have any further concerns or issues, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly. Thank you again for your feedback, and we look forward to the opportunity to serve you better in the future.
Went to RepairPal Certified DNS/Central Bergen Auto Shop in Bergenfield for repair. They did complete break work including rotor, pads and oil flush and some other repair as well. Break parts was wrong and not even correctly installed. Went three times back to shop but the owner was not able to fix it. Finally Dealer repair and put new break parts to my car. Owner is dishonest and I don't recommend to no one. I would like to ask RepairPal how you certified this Auto shop if they are not qualified and not good mechanic. You should cancel their certification. I went their as your certification and trust your organization and now RepairPal looks bad. Very disappointed from RepairPal and never use your certified Auto Shop again. Thank you,
I used repairpal to estimate and locate a mechanic to replace my spark plugs. When I got the price it seemed fair si I booked an appointment. I dropped off my vehicle the next day and they told me the price was going to be $300 more!
I told and showed the auto shop the repairpal price. They laughed and said "repairpal gets a commission for sending you to us. They always quote around 50% lower than you'll really oay".
I left. Very poor business model. Quoted price and referral shop below in oics.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with one of our recommended shops. It's important to note that the quotes provided by RepairPal do not account for taxes, diagnostics, and other fees, which may vary depending on the specific repair and location. We take claims of inaccurate pricing very seriously and will investigate this matter. However, we understand the frustration this can cause and we will work to improve our services to ensure that our customers receive accurate and transparent pricing information. Please know that this quote was honored at 50 other nearby RepairPal certified shops, and we encourage you to find a shop in our network that will meet your needs.
I asked a simple question about tinted windows and they went on saying they can't answer this because they don't talk about stuff like "mods" on cars. Like I just asked a simple question all you had to say is "Yes, you can combine the two. Or No, Those aren't the same thing." Not "We aren't allowed to answer this because window tint is illegal in some states (Which as we all should know isn't true it's legal in all states just the % of window tint is what you would worry about.)" Simple question w/ a dumb answer. I highly don't recommend.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We apologize that you did not receive a clear and helpful answer to your question about tinted windows. Our goal is to provide accurate and reliable information to our users, and we are disappointed to hear that we fell short in this case.
We want to assure you that we do not have any policies that prohibit us from answering questions about car modifications or accessories, and we are sorry if you received any confusing or inaccurate information from one of our representatives. We will be sure to address this with our team to ensure that they are providing accurate information and helpful responses to all of our users.
If you have any further questions or concerns about window tinting or any other automotive topics, we would be happy to assist you in any way we can. Please feel free to contact us directly and we will do our best to provide you with the information you need.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention and giving us the opportunity to improve our service. We appreciate your feedback and hope to have the chance to provide you with a better experience in the future.
I recently discovered that Repair Pal was charging us a 10% referral fee on our regular customers who were using the Aergo tow network for a roadside assistance benefit probably related to their auto insurance policy. That is NOT a referral when our customer is requesting to be towed to us, their regualr mechanic. I hope other shop owners are aware of this, we were cheated hundreds if not thousands of dollars before I wised up to what they were doing. They never denied it and just said it was my responsibility to identify those "charges" and request they be removed.
This particular business associated with RepairPal is terrible and will try to rip you off. When you contact RepairPal about this business associated with it, you are ignored. They try to talk circles around you because they don't know what they are doing. My car has been at one of their facilities for over a week and this facility has tried to over charged me. My car is still under warranty. What they thought was wrong wasn't covered. Told me my car was ready. Went to pick car up, still broken. It was only then they took everything I told them at the time I bought the car in that was happening seriously. They have not kept me informed of what's going on with my car. When I call, just rude. I'm just going to have to get my car towed to another shop at this point. A joke. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT use any repair facility associated with Repair Pal. The one I'm using is Benton Rd. Auto Repair.
How can RepairPal be in business they way they operate and still money from there customers. If there customers knew how they are getting charged they would not use this company that commits fraud several times a day. And they have very very little to back up how there charging there customers. TOTALLY NOT RIGHT... I'm going to tell every automotive business I know...
Thank you for your review. We want to assure you that we take any claims of fraud or unethical behavior very seriously, and we do not engage in any activities that would be considered stealing from our customers.
We are committed to providing a transparent and fair pricing model for all of our users, and we take great care to ensure that our pricing is accurate and competitive. We work with a network of trusted and reliable auto repair shops that have been screened and approved by our team, and we stand behind the quotes and estimates provided through our platform.
If you have concerns about a specific charge or transaction, we encourage you to reach out to our customer support team so that we can investigate the matter and address any issues. We are always happy to work with our customers to resolve any concerns or questions they may have.
Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope that you will give us another chance to serve you in the future. If you have any further concerns or issues, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
They wanted to say on here that a part cost 1,400$ well I call you guess bull$#!+ because I found the part for less then 180$ so take your work and put it where the sun don't shine have a good day and people please check all resources before you jump and start paying greedy people like this company because they want us to break the bank when we are already having a tough time as it is
Hi Cynthia, We always do our best to be as accurate with pricing as possible. Our estimator is based on OEM parts and provides a range for each repair because we understand pricing will vary based on labor rates and the availability/pricing of parts. Occasionally, the estimator range will include additional repairs if they are necessary for completing the original job, which may be the case here. Would you mind sharing what you needed to get repaired? We would be happy to look into this specific repair to ensure we are correct with our pricing ranges.
Please email: community@repairpal.com.
I put in a search for a Porsche mechanic on Cape Cod. We are villages, and don't really have a Porsche dealer, just an Audi/Porsche, who are criminal in their jacking up the price of parts; a vacuum tube for the leak I had - their price, $1700, actual price, $176.00. RepairPal found the most honest and reliable mechanic I've ever had! He not only replaced the rear tubes, but replaced the top system between the turbos as well. Total cost including parts, $2,200. Ed Hannigan, owner of Patriot Automotive in Harwich, MA, has also become a personal friend.
Hi Ron, glad we're glad you found Patriot Automotive in Harwich, MA. We know it's hard to find a shop alternative to service a Porsche. Our independent repair shops will always charge you fairly on parts and labor. And in your case, not only did you find a great shop to take your Porsche to, you also gained a friend. Thanks for sharing your story.
Estimates are high and the range is large. Its like if I asked how much a toaster should cost and someone said between $100 and $200 when you could get one at Walmart for $25. I saw the estimates and first thought was this site is sponsored by the car repair places that want to rip you off.
For all those high priced shops trying to discredit repair pal all I have to say is how do you sleep at night? Is your making all that money at the consumers expense really more important than honesty and integrity? You should be ashamed of yourself and if not I will make it a point to let others know that you and your family can rest assured that you are making a world without values and morals. Hope you enjoy what you create. I wish a big red light would appear over your heads to identify you because like other bottom feeders you always seem to lurk in the shadows. Repair Pal is the real deal and it needs to grow so these bottom feeders can go back to their pits and stop trying to screw up this country more.
I typed in several examples of repairs and the estimates seem to be either too high or too low. This site might help shops get more exposure but I don't think it is reassuring for consumers. There is no guarantee any of the shops listed are better or less expensive than the mechanic down the street. Remember, they pay to be listed here. I ended up getting 3 'real' estimates from mechanics in my area and they were less than what was quoted here.
Hey Ann, thank you so much for the review and your concerns. Any shop that is listed with RepairPal has gone through a verification process to ensure a good customer experience, the use of quality parts and tools, a high level of training (and the continued investment in education) for their technicians, and a warranty that backs up their work. When you use RepairPal and list your repair with us, we also back that warranty nationwide at any Certified shop. There are incredible auto shops throughout the country that go above and beyond to help their customers, but many people continue to have a bad experience when it comes to car repair. We hope to give a little peace-of-mind, help people find a shop that will honor a set price, and no matter what, we're glad that you were able to find a great shop to get your car repaired at! We hope this helped shed a bit more light on the program and that we can help you in the future. Thanks again Ann, and safe travels! -KB
They do not stand behind the estimates at all. They underestimate the labor involved in completing the work. Then they come back and say are bad it was off and the shop charged what is industry standards. There customer service agents claim that they have gone through ASE training yet they can not explain how according to there system it takes 2 hours to put a gasket on an oil pan that is being replaced and that it requires 10 quarts of oil to complete the job. The vehicle only takes 5 quarts of oil. When the estimate is off they say oops we will update the website.
Hi Robbie, our estimator tool is updated monthly now, whereas before it was every couple of months. The tool holds tens of thousands of estimates that are backed up by industry standards and labor guides based where you are in the nation.
Consumers ask us repeatedly to help them understand what is wrong with their car, even though we both know it's impossible without seeing the car first-hand, experiencing the problem and performing a proper diagnosis. So we take an approach somewhere in the middle. We try to always provide several possible solutions to avoid the perception of us performing a "diagnosis", we recommend a diagnosis as a next step, and point out the next steps a shop will take is to verify the issue and perform a diagnosis to determine the cause of the issue.
When estimates are off, we do correct them, yes! We take full responsibility for when that occurs, although it is very rare that the estimates are incorrect.
After being referred to repairpal.com by CarMax, I found Main Street Garage in Upland, CA. After two attempts at repairing my alternator (they said it was a bad part both times), the third time the owners of Main Street Garage told me to take my car and go elsewhere after they refused to make good on a warranted part unless I would sign papers exposing me to having to pay for another diagnostic for the same issue. Meanwhile after calling repairpal.com to complain about their vendor (Main Street Garage) all she (Terra) seemed to do was make excuses for their behavior. Don't try and save a few bucks by using this resource just ask friends and family for a referral!
Hi Bridget, sorry to hear that you had a terrible experience. Faulty parts is an issue and by fault of the manufacturer, not the shop, most times. It seems like the shop tried to fix this issue "both times" and then suggested you to go to another repair shop to complete the repairs. Hoping your repair was ultimately repaired with good parts and that you found another trusted repair shop by word of mouth. If there is anything we can do to remedy your experience, please respond back to community@repairpal.com within reason to what we can do for you.
Thanks!
I did business with these guys for two years. They have over charged me using underhanded invoicing techniques. They tell me they can adjust charges if I call but they don't bother calling me back or answering their phones. Things changed with this company 6 months ago. Whatever they did, they are now the most imcompetant predatory company I've ever had the misfortune of doing business with. Please, PLEASE stay away from them.
Hi Naram,
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. It is never our intention to overcharge you and we absolutely can adjust charges if there are any issues. Our customer success team is here M-F to address any concerns you may have, however, when invoicing goes out, our response time can be a bit delayed due to the increase in volume.
This specific situation is something I'd like to take a look into, can you please provide me with some more information about your shop and which charges you are referring to? You can email them directly to community@repairpal.com. Thank you again and I look forward to hearing from you soon. - AH

Answer: Yes, they should honor that repair. If they are RepairPal Certified we cover them if there is a error in our estimate. Check out RepairPal.com for great shops to do quality repair on your car. Keep in mind that our estimates are straightforward. In the case of a water pump it my need other items that are not included in the estimate. These might include hose, thermostats, and possible a timing belt. These additional items, if needed can add additional costs to the repair.
